The present 2025 Chevrolet Malibu has been on the North American market since 2015 and has been far past due for a replacement. However, since General Motors had already eliminated all sedans from the Buick lineup because of the popularity of SUVs and Chevrolet was forced to let go of the big Impala in 2020, the sedan was slated to be replaced. Impala at the end of 2020 there’s been many rumors suggesting regarding the fact that the sixth model of Malibu might also be the final. There is new evidence that suggests General Motors is indeed working on a seventh-generation version of its bestselling mid-size sedan, which is expected to be released in a little over two years.
2025 Chevy Malibu Review
As per GM Authority, which cites people who are familiar with the situation the decision has been taken at General Motors to keep the Malibu in production for a further generation. The publication claims to have uncovered more specific information about seven-generation of this mid-sized sedan. For instance that the new Malibu might be able to drive on one of the variants of the VSS-F platform of GM. Since it is a platform specifically designed for internal combustion engines the seventh generation is not expected to be released as an electric-only model, but rather at the very least accompany the transition to electric mobility by incorporating hybrid engines.
It is also expected that the upcoming Malibu is based on the D/E version of this platform. This could be followed by the slight addition of length, which could take the Malibu to the 5-meter mark. Shortly, the Malibu will likely be the only car within the Chevrolet model range that can assume the role of an all-feather model and replace the defunct Impala in the same way. Similar steps have already been implemented by Maserati and will replace the Ghibli and Quattroporte with a smaller top model.
Because of the growth in SUVs, the of sedans has continued to decrease during the past few years. Even though all numbers aren’t yet available, fewer new models of this kind are likely to be produced in the year 2022 than the previous year. This is enough reason for several manufacturers to abandon their old models and concentrate on SUVs. It’s no surprise that the new Honda Accord and the Malibu are both exciting exceptions. The benefit for the makers however is good sales in a waning market segment.
2025 Chevy Malibu Rumors
The new version of the Malibu will likely roll out of the line of production at the GM Fairfax plant which is where the current model is currently being produced. The new model could be put on the market by 2025, and it could be running off the production line up to 2031. GM Authority reports. Alongside the 2025 Chevy Malibu, Chevrolet is also developing an all-electric car for the D-segment. However, it is expected to launch only in China for now. When and if this model will be available to North America in parallel with the Malibu or perhaps replace it is still to be seen.
