The facelifted Kia Sorento, which made its early spy debut back in September 2022 in Scandinavia, is now testing for some winter tests in the cold. It retains the same heavy camouflage but shows a little bit more of the updated design. The front is expected to receive the most significant styling updates.
It will be completely redesigned, with LEDs mounted vertically, similar to the Kia EV9. The Sorento, unlike the Kia EV9, has a combustion motor under the bonnet, which is why it needs a traditional grille. However, the updated model is expected to get a new pattern. The lower bumper intakes appear to have been redesigned, as well as the bonnet. This is a secret that’s hidden under large patches of camouflage.
The Kia Sorento’s profile will probably remain the same, but the rear-covered section may hint at a slightly modified D-pillar. Kia engineers have done a fantastic job covering the rear, allowing only a glimpse of the LED taillights that look exactly like the current model. This could still change when future prototypes wear the final production-ready bodywork.
The digital cockpit, which will be installed in the cabin, will feature the latest infotainment technology that is compatible with updates over the air and will offer services such as feature-on-demand. Kia confirmed that its new connected features will be available across all of its models by 2025. The “AutoMode” ADAS Package will also be a highlight, which will be available on the EV9 by 2026 and then gradually be expanded to all models across major markets. This includes the Sorento. At this stage, there is no information on powertrains. However, we expect many carryover options that will be geared towards cleaner and more efficient plug-in and hybrid trims.
Kia Sorento 4th Gen was introduced in 2020, so it will be four years old next year. This is the perfect time to update it mid-lifecycle. We wouldn’t anticipate a debut before late 2023 or early 2024 as an MY 2025, judging by the heavy camo of the prototypes. Hyundai is also working on an update to the Santa Fe that will be more substantial, and the new SUV will have a boxier look.
2025 Kia Sorento Redesign
The updated Kia Sorento, as it stands now, is a prototype. It’s therefore well hidden. You can still see some details that suggest the car will look similar to the current model. It looks like the new Kia EV9 will have a similar headlight design. This new car is likely to have a wider grille as well.
These alloy wheels were fitted on this car for testing only, so do not expect to see them in the final production model. The rear lights are similar to those on the current Sorento. The massive exhaust will only be used for testing. The interior shots of the Kia Sorento don’t reveal much. However, you can expect a new infotainment unit similar to that found in the Kia EV6.
Engine
The engine options of the new Kia Sorento have not been disclosed, but the current lineup will likely remain unchanged. The choice is between a petrol-hybrid 1.6 liter with 226hp or a petrol-hybrid plug-in 1.6 liter with 261hp with a range of all-electric 35 miles. Even with the powertrain design, there is no information on the offered powertrain.
The powertrain layout is not a priority for the Sorento, as it seems to be in the very early stages of development. Many auto experts, however, believe that the engine options will be numerous, with a focus on hybrids and plug-in hybrid technologies to achieve cleaner and more efficient results. We will provide more information and details once we have more information about the powertrain.
2025 Kia Sorento Price & Release Date
