Kia is said to develop their new vehicle, the 2024 Kia EV9. This vehicle would be burly and big and comes in the form of an SUV. This future SUV would run on batteries to make it even more enjoyable. Kia seems serious about it because some of the ‘fresh’ prototypes (of the so-called) EV9 have been seen here and there.
About Kia EV9
Kia is a bit ambitious about their upcoming EVs. They plan to launch 14 different EVs by 2027, including (electric) pickup trucks. From 2023 to 2027, you can expect 2 Kia EVs to launch, a minimum every year. This is a pretty ambitious plan, but it may work.
Kia introduced their EV9 vehicle concept during Los Angeles Motor Show in 2021. From those concept vehicles, the SUV seems to have a similar design and style to the show concept ride, but the design details appeared to be toned down. According to Kia’s executives, the concept EV9 ride would represent at least 80% of the actual production model. Since Kia is very limited in providing the details of their electric ride, we can only assume and predict from the available prototypes.
Design and Layout
Although details are minimal about the new 2024 Kia EV9, we can see some examples and inspirations from other existing Kia models. For instance, Kia Telluride may spark inspiration when it comes to size. The Telluride is designed as a mid-size vehicle. Meanwhile, the concept of EV9 back then in Los Angeles has 194 inches in length. It’s 3 inches less than the length of the Telluride. It’s possible that Kia would later ‘develop’ the design to be similar to the exact size of the Telluride, or the EV9 would be shorter than the Telluride.
The Interior Cabin
Some experts and enthusiasts claim that the interior won’t be as extravagant or grandeur as the interior cabin. It would be somewhat toned down from the original concept. But you can expect the floating screen, which would house the infotainment hub and instrument cluster, to be available for the EV9. Just so you know, the same floating screen has been implemented in Telluride 2023, so it won’t be a new thing for Kia.
The cabin would be better and more significant in terms of comfort, especially compared to the Telluride. It’s because of the electrification plan. If Telluride remains functional as the inspiration, you can also expect third-row seating for the EV9.
Powertrain and Performance
The new EV9 would be constructed on the E-GMP platform, which Hyundai Motor Group specially designed. This platform has been used in EV6 GT Kia, which uses an 800V electric system and a bi-directional charge. It can generate 576 hp and 546 Nm of torque.
Based on the EV9 concept specs, the ride should be able to cover 300 miles of distance. It will have a fast charge ability. In less than half an hour, the battery can be charged between 10% and 80% by using the 350 kW charger.
2024 Kia EV9 Price
One of the reasons why Kia is ambitious is probably because of Hyundai’s production planning. Hyundai wants to launch several SUVs within the following year. One of those models would be the big SUV, Ioniq 7, which is somewhat twinned with the EV9. It should be exciting to see what the upcoming launch brings.
If everything goes as planned, the 2024 EV9 should be available at dealerships within the second half of 2023. What about the price? Kia hasn’t provided any info about this, so we need to wait for the further release of the 2024 Kia EV9.
