The second-generation Volvo XC60, which was launched in March 2017 for the 2018 model year, is expected to be updated in the coming months to become an MY2024 vehicle. The 2024 XC60, like all other new Volvos sold in the U.S., will only be available with electrified engines. What can we expect from the 2024 Volvo XC60 Hybrid? The information and images in this article are for the current model, but as new details become available, the page will be updated.
2024 Volvo XC60 Hybrid Redesign
2024 would be a regular yearly update, meaning there would be no design changes. The Volvo XC60 Hybrid 2024 should be the same on the outside and inside, but some paint and wheel options may be new.
The Volvo XC60 Hybrid 2024 will feature full-LED front lights with ‘Thor’s Hammer’-shaped daytime running lamps and L-shaped rear lamps. Its exterior design is muscular and contemporary. There will be multiple wheel sizes up to 22 inches. Volvo Cars want to prepare its customers for a future XC60 that will include an electric variant. The tailpipes are hidden behind the rear bumper.
Interior
Volvo XC60 Hybrid 2024 will have a reductive interior design, giving occupants a Swedish feeling of calm and uncluttered. It would also feature clever storage solutions including a compartment underneath the rear seats. The interior would be reductive with wood decor, a crystal gear shifter, speakers made of stainless steel, and other intricately detailed touches. Trim and materials could be different.
The interior would feature a 12-inch digital display with Calm and Navigation modes, as well as a head-up screen and a portrait 9-inch center display. Google’s Android Automotive OS would power the infotainment, which can be accessed via the center screen. It will also support OTA updates. The infotainment would be accessible with “Hey Google”, a simple voice command. Google Maps, Google Play Store, and other features would be included.
Powertrain
Volvo Cars replaced the XC60 T5 and T6 conventional gas engines in the U.S. with B5 and mild-hybrid gas engines B6 with the MY2022 upgrade. Volvo XC60 2024 will probably be offered with the same hybrid engines. Both engines are electrified by a 48V system and a 13 HP Integrated Starter generator. The B6 is equipped with an E-Charger electric supercharger. While the T6 was fitted with a mechanical turbocharger. The B5 and the B6 engines will not differ from those of the 2023 model, but they may have different specifications. The combined fuel economy could vary.
The plug-in version 2024 Volvo XC60 will combine a 2.0L gasoline motor with an electric one to produce 455 hp and 523 lb. ft. system torque. The rear-mounted electric motor would be powered by a battery pack of 18.8 kWh, which is made up of three layers. This battery pack’s net capacity or usable power would only be 14.9kWh. This would be enough for a 36-mile practical EV range, which is sufficient for many daily trips within the city.
Production
Volvo Cars manufactures the XC60 in Sweden at Torslanda for global markets including the U.S. Zhongjia Automobile Manufacturing produces the XC60 at its Chengdu factory in China for China. Zhejiang Haoqing Automobile Manufacturing (owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group) conducts the final testing before sending the units to Volvo Cars. The 2024 model will see the same production locations.
2024 Volvo XC60 Hybrid Price and Release Date
Volvo Cars could price the base configurations for the 2024 XC60 Plug-in Hybrid and the 2024 XC60 Mild-Hybrid at USD 44,000 each. The Swedes will likely reveal details about the new model during the summer. Volvo is also working on the all-electric Volvo EX60, which will be available by 2026.
