If you have been waiting for Sierra updates, rest assured that the upcoming 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 HD will get redesigned work. Some sources say the vehicle would get a significant update project for the forthcoming production. Aside from the new rear and front-end designs, the company would revise the interior cabin and include a powertrain update.
This line was initially set for the 2023 model. But due to various complications (primarily because of superconductor chips shortage and COVID-19 pandemics), GMC decided to delay the production and make it a 2024 model instead. However, you can expect them to start production around this year, when the show will take place at the company’s Flint manufacturing plant in Flint, Michigan.
The Redesigned Work
GMC alone hasn’t provided any details about their upcoming Sierra production, but some of the prototypes have been spotted testing. Based on those spy shots, it’s pretty evident that the truck would get a new rear-end and front-end design. Unfortunately, the prototypes are heavily covered so the details can be scarce and shady.
From the looks of it, the front fascia somewhat looks wider, seemingly supporting updated headlights and a new grille. The rear end also seems to get redesigned work with a new bumper and taillights. Naturally, there would be slight differences between the trims, so expect more features (and good looks) for the highest edges.
The Interior Cabin
The house is said to be more comfortable and somewhat plusher. Since the exterior would get some updated work, expect the interior cabin to get some improvement too. Improved quality and better trims will be included in the upcoming work. Sierra has a standard touchscreen infotainment display of 8.0 inches, which is expected to be more prominent in the 2024 model. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay have been the standard features, which should continue to be offered for the 2024 model.
People have been expecting an entertainment system for the new Sierra for the rear seats, satellite Sirius XM radio, and Bose audio system. Sources say that the GMC may be planning a more luxurious Denali trim, and they would add more technologies and features for the frame. But since they haven’t provided any details, we can only wait.
Powertrain and Performance
Since details about the new 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 HD are scarce, the vehicle is predicted to have a carryover powertrain. It means that 2500 would come with a gas-powered V8 unit with a 6.6-liter capacity, designed as the standard powertrain. This layout can churn 401 hp and 464 Nm of torque, paired with an auto six-speed transmission and a rear-wheel driving system. There is a possibility that an all-wheel driving system is also offered as the optional pick. Some rumors say this configuration may generate 450 hp because of improved mapping.
There would likely be an optional V8 diesel Duramax unit with a 6.6-liter capacity, delivering 445 hp and 910 Nm of torque, paired with an auto 10-speed transmission. Sierra 2500HD comes with one rear wheel axle, enabling it to accommodate almost 4,000 pounds of cargo and 18,500 pounds of towing ability.
Release Date and Price
Again, we don’t have much info about the upcoming Sierra 2500HD, and it includes the information about the release date and the price. But it’s safer to assume that the cost would be higher because of the redesigned works. The current Sierra is sold at around $42,000 for the Pro trim, and the SLE is set at $47,000. The SLT is about $57,000, while the AT4 is $65,000. The Denali is $71,000. Expect the new 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 HD to debut sometime in 2023.
