Lucid Motors is keeping a low profile about its upcoming Gravity SUV, despite teasing the vehicle last November. Gravity has made great strides in its production and is now testing on US public roads. The latest photos of Gravity testing reveal the vehicle in a space-themed camouflage, despite Lucid showing it uncovered at the end of last season. Details on the startup’s upcoming SUV are still scarce.
2024 Lucid Gravity EV Review
The Gravity is expected to offer seating for seven people and features a more advanced version of the Glass Cockpit. This will be accompanied by an updated Lucid UX system. The company claims that the luxury SUV’s driving dynamics will be on par with those of sports cars, and its electric range will be better than any other EV SUV sold today. We don’t know any performance numbers, so we can only go by Lucid’s words. The Gravity is expected to have the same range of power options available on the Air. This includes three levels ranging between 480 horsepower and 1050 horses for the Grand Touring Performance.
We think that the Gravity sedan will have many of the same specs as the Air when it is produced. According to EPA estimates, the Air currently has the longest driving range of any electric car on the market. Air Grand Touring had the longest range of all the EVs we tested at 75 mph. The Air Grand Touring can also add up to 300 miles in less than 20 minutes by plugging into a rapid charger. Gravity’s impressive range will be hampered by the added weight and size of an SUV, but if Lucid’s first attempt at the Gravity is any indication, it will offer plenty to enjoy.
Exterior & Interior
The all-electric startup, which launched the Lucid Air sedan in 2013, is now focusing on a new SUV called Gravity. Lucid may or may not stick with Gravity as the name for the SUV, but it is expected to have many of the same features that the Air sedan has. According to the few images we have seen, the 2024 Lucid Gravity looks like an expanded version of the Air sedan. The SUV is designed with simple rounded edges and a few sharp edges. This allows the SUV to glide through the air. The thin headlights are connected to a horizontal LED strip that is positioned under the hood. The front fascia also features vertically oriented fog lamps and a large air intake. Lucid hasn’t released clear photos of Gravity’s rear, but it has a thick D pillar, a horizontal taillight running the entire width of the liftgate, and a prominent bumper.
Lucid didn’t provide many details about the interior of the 2024 Gravity. According to the few images we have seen, Gravity appears to be an airy vehicle with three rows of seating that can accommodate up to seven passengers. The SUV will feature a unique moonroof that spans almost the entire length. Lucid will offer multiple seating options for Gravity, including four- and six-passenger layouts. The automaker confirmed that its latest Glass Cockpit system will be included in the Lucid Gravity. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are expected to come standard, as well as Amazon Alexa.
We guess that Lucid will also follow a similar design language. Lucid Motors has released several teasers, and it appears that the Lucid Gravity will share the same mechanical and design foundations as the Air. The Lucid Gravity EV cabin has a glass cockpit with a single curved screen housing the infotainment and driver instrument cluster, and a touchscreen display called the “Pilot Panel”. Gravity electric SUVs come with a panoramic roof made of glass and up to seven seats depending on trim. The modern Lucid UX user interface is also included.
It is positioned as an SUV and has many of the design elements that are required for an SUV. For example, a larger body, and large intakes, meet the cooling needs of the motor. The teaser pictures also show that the large pane of clear glass that is both the windscreen as well as the roof appears to be a holdover from Air. Lucid will likely give the SUV a metal roof since it is an SUV that could be used in rough terrain.
We are also anticipating an all-wheel-drive system. Lucid Motors, however, has not confirmed this. The Gravity will have bigger tires and muscular fenders for that SUV look. According to the manufacturer, Gravity has a large compartment for rear storage. The large Clamshell hatch at the rear will make loading and offloading easy.
2024 Lucid Gravity EV Release Date & Price
According to the timeline given by Lucid in November last year, the configurator for Gravity and the ordering books should open in 2023. Production is expected to start in 2024. Lucid was contacted for confirmation of this timeline. We will update the story if they respond. We do not know. Lucid hasn’t announced pricing or trim levels for Gravity yet. We expect that it will begin at least a little higher than the Air. The Air starts at $87400 for the Pure base model and goes up to $107400 for other trims.
