Ford’s small pickup arrived a few years ago and completely changed the perspective of a compact truck, establishing a whole new segment. Today, it still has just one competitor, Hyundai Santa Cruz, but this could change soon, as many rival companies announced that they will join the segment soon. That’s why, even though the overall design is pretty fresh, the 2024 Ford Maverick is about to bring some novelties. From what we know so far, it looks like the hybrid version is about to get an all-wheel drive, while some sources even speculate about the plug-in hybrid.
In any case, these updates should help Maverick remain the class leader. Other than that, we don’t believe that the next year’s model could bring significant changes. We expect to see a familiar layout, with familiar features and specs. We like this pickup for many reasons, starting from the attractive price, smooth ride, efficient powertrain, and a decent amount of standard and available equipment.
2024 Ford Maverick Review
Engine
So, the biggest changes for the next year should happen under the hood. From what we know so far, the Hybrid version should get an AWD version, considering that the current model is FWD only. We don’t expect bigger changes in specs, so the system output should remain the same, with 191 horsepower. Also, we don’t expect a drastic decrease in terms of mpg ratings. Instead, things should remain pretty similar to the FWD model, which returns around 33 mpg in the city and 42 mpg on the highway.
On the other hand, we are getting reports about the new, plug-in hybrid version. That model uses a similar setup, with a bigger battery and more capable electric motors. The system output is rated at around 221 horsepower, while the 14.4-kWh battery pack should ensure around 35 miles of the all-electric range.
Finally, there is the turbo-four version, equipped with a well-known 2.0-liter engine that puts out 250 horsepower and features a classic automatic gearbox instead of a CVT.
New Design
Other than the powertrain updates, we don’t believe that the 2024 Ford Maverick could bring more important updates. The overall design will remain the same, while we also think that it’s still early for a mid-cycle refresh. Therefore, the styling will remain the same, with the aesthetics that have a lot in common with the Bronco Sport, at least at the front end. Of course, the next year’s model will continue in a familiar crew cab layout as the only variant on offer.
The same thing is with mechanics. We don’t expect changes, so the overall driving experience should remain the same too. What’s good to know is that the base model with a hybrid powertrain features a more basic, semi-independent rear suspension, while models with turbo-four feature independent rear suspension.
Interior
Once again, no bigger changes are expected. So, the 2024 Ford Maverick is about to come with a familiar dashboard design, which doesn’t feel particularly inspiring but doesn’t feel too bad either. The build quality seems fair, even though most of the surfaces are covered with hard plastics. The ergonomics are pretty good, while the decent number of tech features make this pickup look more upscale than it is.
When it comes to space, there is nothing to complain about. The front seats are spacious and comfortable, while the second row also accommodates adults with ease. The sound insulation is good, while the boxy shape provides great outward visibility in all directions. Also, there is a decently sized 4.5-foot cargo bed, 0.5-foot longer compared to the Santa Cruz.
Of course, this aspect will probably bring a few updates. Some of the current options might become part of the standard equipment but we do not doubt that most things are about to remain the same. Therefore, expect to see base models equipped with goodies like an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a six-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, two USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, an analog gauge cluster, remote keyless entry, air conditioning, cruise control, and power windows.
Among upgrades, expect to find things like navigation, wireless device charging, an eight-speaker stereo, satellite radio, two more USB ports, two 120-volt household-style power outlets, dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, remote start, a moonroof, ambient lighting, and a sliding rear window.
2024 Ford Maverick Release Date & Price
We expect that the 2024 Ford Maverick will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year. The current model starts a little bit under 24.000 dollars and we don’t expect a bigger increase for the next year.
