You don’t need a crystal ball or drinking partner at GM to figure out how America’s future Chevrolets and Buicks will appear. All you need is to keep an eye on the developments in China and where the upcoming design and facelifts are always the first to appear first.
2024 Chevy Equinox RS New Design
For instance, the 2024 Chevy Equinox, in its current combustion-powered North American form is the kind of utilitarian but dull SUV that is functional but is a complete flop. Last month, thanks in part to pictures and information from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology website, we discovered that the GM’s successor to the six-year-old Equinox is an aesthetically attractive SUV that has A square jaw, more streamlined waste, stylish split headlight design, and an entire lot more attitude.
That was the standard Equinox. Thanks to the same Chinese government site, we’ve now been allowed a glimpse at the more sporty RS version, which takes the intensity a notch. This RS cosmetic package is said to have a brand new grille that has horizontal bars with corrugated design and a silver-colored accent on the lower bumper while one vehicle featured has an impressive black grille surround and a metal-effect rear bumper.
There are wheels with new designs that are larger (up to 19-in, as seen in the photos, but the datasheet states 17 inches as normal) and finished with silver and black, as well as with black rails that run across the roof and the RS also comes with a pair of slim and wide exhaust tailpipes. The changes aren’t a lot, however, they are noticeable.
The wheelbase of the RS is similar to the standard version’s at 107.5-in (2,730 millimeters) and a 183.5-in (4,661 millimeters) length means that the sportier bumper adds only 0.3-in (8 millimeters) to the overall footprint. The dimensions are almost the same as those of the present U.S. Equinox, though the Chinese version has a width of 2.4 inches (59 millimeters) larger and nearly 2 inches (50 millimeters) taller, which is expected to increase the interior space.
Engine
Performance improvements over the standard 2024 Chevrolet Equinox is an increase of 33 percent in the engine’s capacity. The stock Equinox is equipped with an 1.5 ICE motor rated at 170 horsepower (127 kW or 173 PS) however, the RS increases the power to a 2.0-liter inline-four that produces 228 horsepower (170 kW/ 231 PS). The top speed is increased from the 118-131 mph range (190 to 200 km/h).
2024 Chevy Equinox RS Rumors
GM North America hasn’t confirmed that the new Chinese Equinox is the same version we’ll be seeing within Canada and the U.S. and Canada when the current model is retired. Chevy has unveiled its Equinox EV, which is completely different from the Equinox and it’s not likely that GM will abandon the ICE SUV segment, so don’t be shocked to see this vehicle at U.S. showrooms for the 2025 model year.
