2024 BMW X5 M60i Review, Pricing, and Specs

The 2024 BMW X5 made its world debut in February, before making its public debut earlier in the month at the Amelia Concours d’Elegance. The M Performance version, now renamed M60i marks the SUV’s debut at an auto show in Serbia this week at the 2023 Belgrade Motor Show. We get a tour of the V8-powered luxury barge in a high-spec configuration in this new video from BMW’s booth.

2024 BMW X5 M60i Redesign

The 2024 BMW X5 M60i is available in Tanzanite Blue II Metallic. It rides on the biggest wheels for the M Performance model, the 2024 BMW X5 M60i. The 22-inch set features a V-spoke design and a two-tone finish. Red brake calipers are also available in blue. Apart from obvious design changes like slimmer headlights and updated taillights with an “X” motif and new bumpers, the kidney grille now has an M badge.

Interior

The X5 M60i’s interior features one of the best leather upholstery options for a midsize luxury SUV. You can choose the Tartufo specification extended Merino leather or the Piano Black trim as an Individual upgrade. The M Performance version’s ambient light bar displays the M letter proudly on the passenger side.

The M60i, as with all X5 versions with Life Cycle Impulse, has switched to BMW’s iDrive 8 The M60i’s dashboard has been redesigned to accommodate the curved glass. It now features a 12.3-inch digital driver display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen. You’ll see a simplified console and a smaller gear selector.

Engine

The LCI’s most important change is the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 underneath the hood. The mild-hybrid engine still has 523 horsepower and 553 pounds-feet (553 Newton-meters) torque, but it’s more efficient thanks to the 48V technology. The X5 M60i can reach 62 mph (100 km/h), in 4.3 seconds, or 4.2 seconds (0-60 mph) sprint.

Exterior and Colors

The X5 Hybrid, like the rest of the X5 lineup, gets a significant refresh in aesthetics. The new BMW signature grille and headlights are now part of the front design. The headlights have been slimmer and the DRLs, which are arrow-shaped, draw the eyes outwards. They also double as turn signals. As an option, the grille can also be illuminated. New vertical air curtains are located at the outer edges of the front fascia.

The rear end gets some TLC. Now the rear lights are adorned with contours of fiberoptic light elements. This creates an X-like motif. The X5 plug-in hybrid is available with 20-inch wheels, as well as all-season run-flat tires. However, larger wheels are also available. The X5 plug-in hybrid also includes a panoramic moonroof, which is a welcome addition that will not cost extra.

There are new exterior colors available for the BMW X5 Hybrid in 2024. These include Blue Ridge Mountain, Brooklyn Grey, and Skyscraper Grey. Additionally, approximately 40 BMW Individual special paintwork colors will be available for purchase at an additional cost upon launch.

Gas Mileage and Range

The BMW X5 Hybrid gets more power in 2024. It also has an increase in all-electric range. The X5 hybrid can travel 40 miles, whereas the previous model could only go 30 miles without using a gas engine. The hybrid model also features a 25.7-kWh battery that is compatible with single-phase or three-phase charging. This doubles the charging rate and allows for faster battery refills. While we will wait to see the official mpg figures of the 2024 BMW X5 Hybrid model, we are hoping for a higher than 50 MPGe.

2024 BMW X5 Hybrid Price and Competition

The price of the 2024 BMW X5 Hybrid starts at $72,500, before any options. This price does not include the $995 destination charge and is the X5 Hybrid’s MSRP. There are many rivals to the X5 Hybrid, and the Volvo XC90 recharge starts at $71,900. The Volvo is a great choice for premium fit and finish, but the BMW model has been much more enjoyable to drive.

Although the Lexus RX Hybrid’s base price is just above $50k, it has significantly lower power output. Even the most powerful version with 366 hp, starts around $10k less than the X5 Hybrid. Comparing the Mercedes-Benz GLE with its 400e PHEV, which will be available in 2024, is a more appropriate comparison. Although it is expected to be less expensive, it is not as powerful.

Production

The production of all 2024 BMW X5 models is expected to start in April at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.
