There will be minor changes and updates to the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The nameplate was updated mid-cycle to reflect the fourth-generation pickup truck. It now features the Silverado ZR2, which fits between the LT Trail Boss and LTZ trims.
For the model year 2022, the Silverado 1500 Limited was also offered (see information on 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Ltd). This temporary measure was taken to ensure production of the new Silverado started. The Limited model won’t be transferred to the model year 2023.
2024 Silverado 1500 Review
Silverado HD has a new exterior design. The exterior features C-shaped LED light signatures that are inspired by Silverado 1500 vehicles but reshaped to fit larger 2500HD and 3500HD grilles. The huge “CHEVROLET” grille bar, which was used on certain trims of the 2024 model is gone. The hood scoop now features subtle debossed letters. Tow hooks are standard features, but higher trim levels come with new dual-projector headlamps which provide animated lighting sequences as the driver approaches or departs the truck.
The 2024 Silverado HD is available in Work Truck, Custom, and LTZ trims. The 3500HD specification offers a variety of cab options, including double or crew cabs, and single- or two-rear-wheel configurations. High Country Midnight Edition is made of premium leather and wood and features black chrome exterior trim with black badges. You can also get 22-inch wheels in the same finish or 20-inch gloss black-painted wheels.
Silverado HD will soon include a ZR2 model. It will be identical to the 1500 ZR2, but with more powerful dampers and locking differentials. Chevy has not yet released details.
The Durabed cargo container for the Silverado HD comes in standard and long beds with a maximum volume of 83.5 cubic feet. The familiar accessibility features like the CornerStep rear bumper, retractable BedSteps, and the Multiflex tailgate in six positions will be there.
Concept
The Silverado 1500’s heavy-duty truck, the Silverado 1500, has had its cabin redesigned to match 1500. The new dashboard and materials are better, and the fit and finish are also improved. The center console features a larger wireless charging area and cup holders on the sides. The HD can hold 10 drinks, depending on the trim and specification. Neat.
Features
This new technology is even more exciting. The HD comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.4-inch central touchscreen that has Google embedded. These features allow passengers to access the Google Assistant voice command, smart device controls, Google Maps navigation, connected destination searches, as well as curated versions and the Google Play Store audio/streaming apps. It was tested in Silverado 1500 and proved intuitive and full-featured.
Silverado HD offers wireless Android Auto connectivity as well as Apple CarPlay connectivity. This feature is available for people who use their smartphone to power their car or to explore the Google ecosystem. An optional feature, a head-up display, helps drivers keep their eyes focused on the road. It displays speed information and other relevant information on the windshield.
Engine
Two engines will be available for the 2024 Silverado HD, with the most powerful being the Duramax V8 turbo-diesel engine. It produces 470 horsepower and 975 lb/ft of torque. The engine produces 25 more horsepower and 65 more lb/ft than in previous years. This is due to improvements that improve combustion efficiency, low-speed performance on grade climbs and better towing. You can choose from either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive options for the diesel HD.
The 3500HD Regular Cab 2WD Dual Wheel configuration can tow a gooseneck trailer up to 36,000 lbs. The same configuration can be used to transport a fifth-wheel trailer and a conventional trailer. It will save you 32,000 pounds, while it will cost you 20,000.
The gasoline-powered 6.6 liter V8 option generates 401 horsepower and 464 pounds of torque. Standard equipment includes an Allison 10-speed transmission. This is the same engine as the diesel in both 2WD and 4WD versions. It has a 3.73 to 1 final drive. This replaces the 6-speed. This engine can halt faster at higher speeds and shifts are quicker and smoother. This gives you more power, efficiency, and a wider range of gear. Chevy credits the HD’s HD’s increased 26,000-pound maximum gross weight rating for the gas-powered HD to the new gearbox. This is an increase in payload and towing estimates from 24,000 last year.
Future
For 2024 Silverado HD customers, there are four new technologies available for trailering. Each technology has been designed to increase safety and ease of use. Adaptive cruise control is now available for trailering. This system, although not as powerful and efficient as Silverado 1500 Super Cruise 2.0 can maintain a predetermined following range while compensating for the increased drag and braking distances of attached trailers.
Chevy’s Transparent Trailer camera technology was improved to make it possible to use fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers with this generation. Chevy HD comes with Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert. This extends blind spot monitoring to trailers that are longer than the trailers. GCW Alert alerts drivers if trailer weight or payload exceeds Silverado’s Gross Combined Weight Rating.
Users will soon have access to a new app for in-dash trailering. This app includes all of these features, plus many more. Low-tech assistance will be provided by a reworked, vehicle-specific Trailering Info Label. It provides information such as ratings and metrics, including maximum tongue weight and payload.
The 2024 Silverado HD features trailering and a variety of modern driver assistance technologies. These include standard forward collision alarms with automated emergency brakes, pedestrian detection, and lane departure warning. The big pickup can offer up to 14 camera views, which includes a standard rear camera as well as an optional rear mirror. You can also choose from surround-view cameras or bed-view cameras.
Production
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD production will start in the first quarter of 2023. Assembly will be done at GM’s Flint, Michigan, and Oshawa, Ontario plants. Although we are still waiting for pricing information, we believe that the starting price won’t be too much higher than the current model’s $42,295 (including $1795 destination). Silverado enthusiasts can see the HD pickup at the State Fair of Texas on Sept. 29.
Canada’s Oshawa plant currently produces only Chevrolet Silverados. Production began on the Silverado HD in November. Oshawa will begin producing Silverado 1500s during the spring of 2022 just in time to launch the refreshed model. Oshawa will be the sole GM plant to exclusively produce Silverado models, and the only plant that can make both lights- and medium-duty trucks.
We expect that the fourth-generation Silverado 1500 model will be in production until 2025. An all-new Chevy Silverado will be launched in the 2025 model year.
