The upcoming 2024 Hyundai Kona has been designed to compete against BYD and Tesla, so it’s understandable if the company is trying its best to deliver the best performance and outcome. The future vehicle would be coming as a (subcompact) SUV and running on electric power. What will the new Kona look like? Is it true that the subcompact SUV would get a redesigned touchup?
2024 Hyundai Kona Electric
Rumor is that Kia has been working on their electric version of the Kona. So, not only the subcompact SUV would likely get redesigned work, but it is going to be a more eco-friendly vehicle. The current Kona has been around since 2018, which means that it’s due time for the ride to get some significant updates. It should be exciting, considering that most auto manufacturers are developing their EV lines.
The suspected 2024 Kona has been spotted going through testing periods, and it has happened since February 2022. But it should be interesting to know the abilities of this electric version. Unfortunately, Kia isn’t ready to provide the details of their upcoming Kona. The best thing that we can do is only predict the possible outcome of the new SUV. Hopefully, the company will be ready to reveal more, which may occur close to the launch date.
2024 Hyundai Kona EV
The prototype of the 2024 Hyundai Kona has been seen going through the testing stroll in Germany. But for the prototype, it seemed they were still using the combustion engine type. And just like other shared prototypes, the Kona is heavily covered, so the primary dimension and design are difficult to tell. It’s a good thing, though, that some of the few key details have been revealed. These details are the giveaway signs that the prototype would be Kona’s electric version.
One of the few details is the charge port. Although covered quite heavily, you should be able to see the charge port (which is located on the front fascia). What kind of cars would need a charging port if not the electric type? The codename for Kona electric would be SX2. In case you don’t know, Kona EV is still related mechanically to Kia Niro, so it’s safe to predict that the upcoming Kona would be inspired (if not shared) by the EV powertrain.
Powertrain and Performance
Again, Hyundai hasn’t provided the details of the upcoming Kona. Still, as a reference, the Niro Kia has a 64.8 kWh battery pack paired with electric motors. The Niro EV is said to be able to cover 285 miles of distance. This is 55 miles of increase over the outgoing model. If you want an electric ride that can cover a long-distance range, you are looking at a potential pick.
Design and Style
Despite the camo, the Kona EV would ‘inherit’ many design elements and cues from Tucson. After all, you must admit that Tucson has a striking design. The same thing would also happen in the interior cabin, including the possibly digital screen set and air vents (right under the screen).
Release Date and Price
Hyundai hasn’t said a word about its plan to launch the Kona and its EV sibling. Many auto enthusiasts are hopeful that it will happen in 2023, likely after the middle of the year. The information about the price is still scarce, so we need to wait for the company to have an official announcement about their 2024 Hyundai Kona finally.
