What’s interesting about the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV is that it looks more like a classic ride than an electric (modern) vehicle, even though it shares the electric powertrain (and platform) with Hummer EV from GMC. Not to mention that this new vehicle has this convenient design with midgate functionality, where you can fold down the wall (between the cab and also the bed) for extra storage space. The method may remind you of the Avalanche pickup truck at the beginning of the 2000s. Unfortunately, such a design doesn’t exist anymore, but thanks to Silverado, you can enjoy it more. So, what can you expect from it?
2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV
Chevy plans to release the Silverado EV as a part of their electrification lineup scheme. They have included a big (battery) pack which is claimed to be able to cover 400 miles of distance within a charge. With the fast-charging DC technology, the battery can provide 100 miles of space within only 10 minutes of the order. The vehicle has two electric motors to deliver a (standard) all-wheel driving system and 664 hp. It can tow cargo up to 10,000 pounds and 1,300 pounds (of the payload).
Although Chevy hasn’t provided the complete details of the features, the company does claim that they are going to manufacture it at a Michigan manufacturing plant, which is the same plant building Hummers. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV would compete against Tesla Cybertruk, Ford F-150 Lightning, and Rivian R1T.
2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Price
Again, there is no official confirmation about the exact availability of the new Silverado EV, but the company states that they will launch it sometime in 2023. When it comes to price, there are several trims to expect. The base trim would be the WT, with an estimated cost of $42,000. A higher edge would be the LT, with a tag price of $50,000. And then, there would be the LTZ with a tag price of $75,000. Afterward, there would be the Trail Boss with an estimated $85,000. The High Country is next on the line with a tag of $90,000. And then, the highest trim would be the RST with a hefty price of around $107,000. But if you want the complete package, the RST has it all.
During the launch, the Work Truck (or WT) would be set as the price leader. You can choose it if you want the most affordable options, but don’t expect too much about the features. If you wish for nicely equipped features, go with the RST or the Trail Boss.
Powertrain and Performance
Hummer EVs may come with three electric motors, but the Silverado EV will only have 2. The RST should have 664 hp, while the base trim WT can ‘only’ produce 510 hp. The standard driving system would be all-wheel as well as four-wheel. Those who go with the RST would find a great and massive 24-inch wheel with adaptive air suspension. Those who pick the Trail Boss should be happy with (meaty) all-terrain tires, locking differentials, and others. We should get more about performance and quality once the information is available.
Charging and Battery Life
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV may seem promising, but let’s wait for Chevy’s official release to be sure about it. The EV would come with Ultium (battery) technology that can accommodate 200 kWh of battery. This kind of pack can cover 400 miles of distance. But let’s not forget that it also affects towing ability. The WT can handle 8,000 pounds, while the RST is around 10,000.
